Dr. Ben Palmer, featured author in Emotional Intelligence: Theoretical and Cultural Perspectives.

Genos' CEO and founder, Dr. Ben Palmer, is among the featured contributors in a new business book - Emotional Intelligence: Theoretical and Cultural Perspectives (Nova Science Publishers, 2008).

The book is designed to meet the growing need among researchers, graduate students, and professionals to look into the existing theoretical models as well as developing theories related to emotional intelligence. The primary aim of the book is to help readers get a view of current conceptualizations of emotional intelligence, while providing an opportunity to see how emotional intelligence has been interpreted and applied throughout the world. Recent studies indicate that emotional intelligence influences behavior in a wide range of domains including school, community, and the workplace. At the individual level, it has been said to relate to academic achievement, work performance, our ability to communicate effectively, solve everyday problems, build meaningful interpersonal relationships, and even our ability to make moral decisions. Given that EI has the potential to increase our understanding of how individuals behave and adapt to their social environment, it is an important topic for study.

Chapter Two of the book, entitled “A Comprehensive Framework for Emotional Intelligence” was co-authored by Ben Palmer, Dr. Gilles Gignac (Genos' new Director of Research and Development), Gina Ekermans (Stellenbosch University of South Africa), and Con Stough (Swinburne University), and chronicles the origins and development of the Genos EI model.

Copies of the book can be ordered online through the EI Consortium website (www. eiconsortium.org) or through Nova Publishing - www.novapublishers.com.

EI Consortium endorses Genos' measure of EI

Recently, Genos was honoured when our model of EI was selected as an approved measure of workplace EI by the highlyregarded Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence.

Our inclusion puts Genos among an elite group of leading industry organisations and assessments – a commercially significant achievement – as just five models of EI globally have been recognised in this way. The EI Consortium's mission is to aid and advance organisations' research and practice in relation to emotional intelligence. Founded in 1996 by industry leaders including Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis, the Consortium actively engages in EI research and its business applications. Its 53 members, including Genos founder and CEO Dr Ben Palmer, come from a wide range of backgrounds covering the academic, corporate, government and private realms.

Genos' measure of EI was included in the Consortium's website for meeting several critical criteria including being a model that is widely used in practice, and by individuals and organisations around the world; and having published academic research and white papers coming from both internal sources and independent authors.

Most importantly, these research papers indicate that the Genos assessment is psychometrically robust, substantiating both the reliability and validity of our instrument. For you, our valued customers and specialist EI practitioners around the world, this honour will bring more recognition, more business and more satisfied clients! It will give Genos greater exposure in the broader market since the EI Consortium is well known as the “go to” resource for information on EI and its application in the workplace – with its website receiving an impressive 20,000 monthly hits.

Of those enquiries, the majority stem from organisations and learning and development professionals seeking information on selecting and using a measure of EI as part of a workplace initiative or the medium to drive an organisational development transformation program.
